We are always looking for a neutral spot to meet friends so that nobody has the burden of driving too far. We have friends in Marshfield, Abington, Hanover, Quincy and Norton that we meet up with. The Square Café has two spots, one in Hingham, MA and the newer one in Hanover, MA. We have been to both multiple times, but our favorite is definitely their Hanover location.
It is always best to get a reservation at Square Café as it can be busy any night, even during the week. They have bar seating, dining room, a common high-top and enclosed patio seating. Last week we met Carol and John, and Robbie and Paula. We were sat at the common high-top table which is set to the side of the bar. It is a fairly private area and was perfect for our group.
Our friends have food allergies and the staff was very accommodating telling us that the chef can work with most allergies on many dishes. We started with a large order of pork dumplings. Eight dumplings came with this order. They were light and fluffy and with an Asian sauce. Delicious as always and we dug in immediately, forgetting about pictures!!
I got the 14 oz ribeye that came topped with butter over mashed potatoes and a creamed spinach. I and ended up taking more than half of it home. Jim and Carol got the halibut special where the generous portion of halibut that was topped with a beurre blanc sauce and chives. It was served sitting on a bed of rice surrounded by pomegranate puree and garnished with chopped pistachios. Paula ordered the sesame salmon that came over rice as well and was topped with a seaweed salad. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal. Robbie got the oven roasted cod, but I didn’t get a picture of his. He liked his as well. We didn’t order dessert as we were all too full from dinner. They have a wonderful cocktail and wine list as well. Our group ordered Alberino wine, a ginger pear martini and a Woodford Reserve old fashioned. All perfectly executed.
Square Café is a go to for us when we want a solid, delicious meal in an upscale environment. If you haven’t tried the Square Café in Hanover, you should!!
