We love going to dinner with friends. We only have a couple of friends that still live in Quincy, MA, our hometown, so we decided to join them on their turf last weekend. We went to ReelHouse in Marina Bay with high school friends Robbie & Paula and Suzie & Anthony (we didn’t get a picture together though).
ReelHouse is located at the end of a boardwalk alongside the Marina Bay Marina, under a fairly new apartment complex. Marina Bay is a marina area at the beginning of the Squantum neighborhood of Quincy with beautiful views of Boston. Of course, we live in New England so trying to get a nice night in April is iffy at best and didn’t work out in our favor. It was overcast and a bit windy and drizzly by the time we left. We got a picture of the Marina, but it was too windy and cold to brave going around the corner to take the view of the Boston skyline. It is a bit of a walk from the parking area for anyone who has mobility issues.
ReelHouse is a nautically themed, upscale restaurant. The décor is bright and cheery, and the interior has you feeling that you are on a yacht with white and navy paint, and dark wood and rope trim. In the good weather, they have outdoor seating as well. ReelHouse Marina Bay is a sister restaurant to ReelHouse East Boston which are both owned by the Navy Yard Hospitality Group. They also own Pier 6 in Charlestown, ReelHouse Oyster Bar in the Seaport, Mija Cantina in Faneuil Hall and The Tall Ship in East Boston. We have been to ReelHouse in East Boston a couple of times and enjoyed it. Once we took a water shuttle from Pier 6 in Charlestown, and another time we drove over from Marina Bay in Robbie’s boat and tied up while we ate. We have been to Pier 6 many times as we have friends who live in the Charlestown Navy Yard and it is a go to when we are there. We have yet to try the others. Because we like those of their restaurants that we have tried, we jumped on the opportunity to purchase a gift card on Black Friday that was 20% off. We purchased a $200 gift card for $140 looking forward to the opportunity to use it at the ReelHouse in Marina Bay to try it out.
The service at ReelHouse in Marina Bay was outstanding during our visit. Our server was phenomenal, making sure we had everything we needed and all with a big smile. We started out with some appetizers which were all amazing. The guys got clam and corn chowder that they reported as being fabulous, and the calamari was cooked perfectly. The chowder was served with smoked bacon and croutons, but I only got a picture of the cup that had been requested with no croutons. Sorry about that.
Our main meals were just as lovely, though our appetites were diminished after the appetizers. I got the swordfish tacos that were delicious. The swordfish was good sized and cooked just the way I like it. It came with a bowl of fried rice that was good as well. Suzie got the Greek salad and soup that she said was good. Paula had chicken soup and truffle fries. Anthony loved the steak tips that came over a bed of spinach and served with fries. Jim and Robbie both had baked cod that was served over linguini Mediterranean style with blistered tomatoes and olives and a light breadcrumb topping. We opted to go back to Suzie and Anthony’s house for dessert where Anthony stopped and grabbed some vanilla gelato and filled croissants. It turned out to be a great night of getting together with friends.
Break Rock Brewing
We opted to go to the area a little early to check out Break Rock Brewing which is on the same pier as ReelHouse. Break Rock was a happening place. It was pretty packed, standing room only. Even so, the staff couldn’t have been more pleasant when we weaved our way through the young people and their dogs (lots of dogs) to the counter to grab a beer and a seltzer. I’d like to come back on a nice day when we can sit at the window with a beverage and listen to the entertainment that they have most days and watch the boats going in and out of the marina.
Until next time!
Regards,
Patti and Jim Hensley
