We decided to go to Lago as we were staying in Ossipee with friends, Steve and Deb. Their son is getting married in September and we will all be staying in this area. We decided to check out the area and settled on Lago as our dining spot. What a gorgeous setting for a restaurant! Lago is on the first floor of the hotel, Inn at Bay Point. Flower boxes of pink petunias run the length of the restaurant under the dining room windows, along the boardwalk. From the moment we entered Lago, we knew this was going to be a special dinner.
We started with a cocktail at the bar while we were waiting for our table. The bartenders were very attentive, and the drinks were made with plenty of the good stuff. I got the Signature Margarita, Deb got a Lemontini, Jim got an Uncommon Old Fashioned and Steve got the Espresso Old Fashioned. We carried our drinks outside to a little porch with a bench with a beautiful view of the lake. Our wait was only 30 minutes, so we carried our drinks to our table once seated.
The dining room is completely lined with gorgeous paned windows overlooking the lake. The décor is rustic with a fireplace at one end. Our server was adorable and the manager kept coming over to check on us.
We started with the Skillet Mussels to share, PEI mussels and spicey Portuguese sausage served in a tomato-based garlic sauce that had a hint of horseradish. The ciabatta garlic wedges were to die for. I am not a huge mussel fan, but these were exceptional!
I ordered the Seafood Risotto which was delicious. The creamy saffron and parmesan arborio rice was cream and flavorful and the seafood was plentiful. It came with pan-seared shrimp, lobster and scallops – all of my favorites – covered in a slightly spicey red butter sauce. I could only finish about half of the dish.
Jim ordered the Orecchiette Sausage Broccolini dish. The ear-shaped pasta was cooked to al dente and tossed with ground sausage and garlicky broccolini in a lemon, butter and parmesan sauce. It was so good, I had to keep picking at the sausage.
Debbie ordered the Bolognese which is a dish I always use to gauge a restaurant. She said it was perfect with wide pappardelle pasta and meaty tomato sauce. Debbie only could eat about half.
Steve ordered the bone-in Veal Milanese which was a showstopper. I’ve never seen a bone-in Milanese before. Steve said it was awesome. It came served over a bed of arugula with tomatoes, kalamata olives, prosciutto and artichokes with Asiago cheese and truffle salt.
For dessert, we ordered tiramisu to share as we were all filled to the brim. It came served in a martini glass with 4 spoons.
Being in such a great location, we decided to walk the boardwalk along the lake. This walk took us past an adorable outdoor dining and cocktail establishment, Town Docks. They were closing up as we were walking past so we continued over to Church’s Landing, where we will be staying in September, for a night cap. You will hear more about Church’s Landing when we get back from the wedding!!
Until next time!
Patti and Jim
